Smart cities are the concept of sustainable urban development that links the latest technological solutions with innovative sociological models with a goal of achieving sustainable economic development and the quality of life of their inhabitants.
Developing smart city development strategies, as a first step in this direction, helps cities to structure projects in the area of resource conservation, increasing the quality of life, and increasing innovation with the aim of preparing projects for funding through Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI). For this reason, energy policy areas (e.g. energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources), mobility, construction (e.g. urban development) and infrastructure (e.g. broadband infrastructure) will be analyzed during the development of this strategy.
However, particular attention will be paid to the analysis of the necessary measures to increase social inclusion and reduce poverty. Projects from this area can be funded through the European Social Fund, but also by the European Economic Area countries and the Kingdom of Norway.
